Artist Statement: April "Sundance" Ganser

Working as both a Commercial Artist and a Fine Artist can be challenging. As a commercial artist, I seek to create a work that expresses the vision in the clients mind, thus excluding what my personal preferences and tendencies may be. As a Fine Artist I am allowed to, supposed to, create original artwork that expresses MY thoughts and philosophies of life.

With a tendency to create from emotion, the romantic in me creates in pursuit of pleasure - for the viewer, and for myself.  While working in the style of abstraction, a strong use of color, form, texture and size instill an aesthetic experience that appeals to the senses and emotions.  My work is executed in a manner of free expressiveness with a further purpose to release energy and provide an escape into its creation.  Much like our innate curiosity to study the world around us and reflect upon nature's most intricate creations, it is my hope to persuade the viewers to reflect on the work – how it was created, how it makes them feel, and even for them to find personal meaning.

Large scale works are my preference. They demand recognition. Color, whether, bright or muted, along with defining forms create tension, lurering one to try to understand what they can not see. It is common for viewers of my work to be tempted to touch them. While this is not possible, it is understandable.Through the sense of touch one may experience the most minute details and thus be reminded of just how small WE are in the grand design.

Whether is through realistic imagery or minimalism, it is my sole purpose to leave the viewers with often unexplainable waves of emotions.  Some of my work is created with a singular message, though mostly it is intended to divert the viewer from reality – the daily chaos - to appreciate the piece, if only for a moment, and experience the peace and tranquility through these predominately organic images.
